Sling

The word sling may refer to one of the following:

  • A sling is one of any sort of loop to supporting something, especially a wide strap of cloth tied behind the neck for supporting an injured arm, made with a triangle bandage or from a handkerchief or neckerchief.
  • A baby sling is a piece of fabric tied to carry a child or infant.
  • A sling (weapon) is a device used to hurl projectiles.
  • A sling is a strap harness attached to a long gun such as a rifle or a shotgun, designed to support the firearm in some intended position on operator's body; see also sling belting.
  • A sling is an item of climbing equipment consisting of a sewn loop of webbing that can be wrapped around sections of rock or tied to other pieces of equipment.
  • A sling is one of various designs of webbing (usually Nylon) or steel (chain or cable) straps either with eyes on each end or an endless loop, used in rigging for lifting heavy loads. A choker sling is intended for use with one end run thru the other end in a way that allows it to tighten on the load to positively secure it during a lift.
