Rivalry

Rivalry is the state of two sides with ongoing competition. Rivalry often exists between friends, firms, sports teams, schools, and universities.

The individuals on the different sides are called rivals.


Some modern day rivals are:

NCAA: Duke Blue Devils & North Carolina Tar Heels (see UNC-Duke rivalry)

NCAA: Michigan Wolverines & Ohio State Buckeyes (see Michigan-OSU rivalry)

MLB: Boston Red Sox & New York Yankees (see Yankees-Red Sox rivalry)

Some historical rivalries:

Soviet Union & United States of America during the Cold War. --- Classified as an ideological, militarial, economical rivalry.
