Elephas is a genus in the elephant family, Proboscidea

The genus has one surviving member species, the Asian elephant (E. maximus), but ten extinct species have been identified as belonging to the genus, including E. recki, E. antiquus, and the dwarf elephants E. falconeri and E. cypriotes. The genus is very closely related to the mammoth genus Mammuthus.
